I've had a vision for social media that focuses on matching individuals based off mutual interest, weighted against their distance. With preference for closer people.

With hope, end result would be fostering local community while also giving people reasons to get off the phone and and into human interaction.

Tech that serves you not profiteers off you.

I'm no developer and wont make it myself. But I'd like to ruminate on the subject, people can join in if it pleases and sparkles

What if your browser made searches on your device, with your consent, but for things you never needed to know? Clicked thru and scrolled the website a bit too. You could even approve of the search prior to it being made do you dont inadvertently tarnish your name with "bad" queries.

It will eat some of your data, but it will purposefully feed bad meta data, muddying the profile data firms have on you.

It could even use real search queries other users may have had.

Wonder if that's realistic

Punitive reactions to bad behaviors are generally pretty counter productive on long timelines. Animal behavior research is pretty clear on this and humans seem to react similarly

On that note: when you see people acting in a good or positive way, its important to actively notice and vocalize it. You're reinforcing things in a way that is longer lasting and helps everyone walk away feeling better

Phrases like toxic masculinity are violent and unproductive from the onset. Tbh its verbal laziness

Once upon a time, there was a huge, hairy, multilegged creature called Google. Like its friend, the Beast of Redmond, it collected people.

The Google didn't keep its captives in physically confining cages; rather, it attached a strand of the fine web it was constantly spinning to each one. The captives could move about freely, but the Google always knew where they were and what they were doing.

to be continued . . . . ?

Don't addict.

Don't surveil.

Don't monetize.

Don't build a memetic weapon that hurts people at scale.

Just make calm, honest machines that help good people do useful things.

"These “web3” schemes are snake oil which everyone should avoid. They make a small number of people richer while simultaneously destroying the environment, assisting criminals and making the rest of us poorer."

"assisting criminals"

I think that this is also quite a troubling mindset - do you agree with every law in every country in the world? who is a "criminal"? it's a lot more expansive than "people who do bad things", and it includes a lot of people who haven't hurt anyone at all. For that matter, some of the properties are useful to ordinary people for ordinary reasons - privacy is a right, no matter whether someone breaks the law. Should we discard anything that might happen to be useful to "criminals"? Do we want to live in a police state?

Anarchy: anonymity

This one is obviously difficult to pull off correctly. It's an area i encourage dialogue in more especially if you're so inclined

Anarchy: anonymity

my take on how to foster a healthy culture while maybe anon

You cannot actively seek out a specific account/person, you must match

If your interaction with someone was misrepresented (example:someone asked for free help and then I said I charge for it) you will be rated as such

When people match with you they will see your ratio to have rough base idea of if you may be trustworthy

the idea of the app is to meet people in person, bots will ideally be discouraged

Anarchy

gonna do the content warnings to be less of a public nuisance.

What I envision for this tool is method for people to connect beyond superfluidities in life.

Rich+famous on equal external footing to broke bitches

The common theme is what are you mutually interested in, or what do you two have to offer/seek that aligns

Need local shade tree mechanic?
Have favorite album you wanna talk about?
Tryna learn a skill?

Link people up and watch how fast we can supercharge ourselves

because I believe this idea to have a strong use case for political dissidents to organize, I believe making it as bombproof as possible would be paramount.

Mesh networking sort of similar to would be ideal to me. The goal is to allow for people to still utilize the tool even if powers-that-be do not approve, as they would not approve of any tool that could disrupt the status quo.

This would also allow for use cases in natural disasters/emergencies for mutual-aid as well.

I fundamentally believe any system such as this would either need to have no censorship at all. The power it could have if done correctly would be too massive to allow a few people deciding what is and is not okay to share an interest with others.

There is potential for abuse, but also potential for community self policing as well.

This would allow for the tool to be used effectively by political dissidents as well, which I find to be a glaring benefit that would be at risk otherwise.

I'd like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux chocolate cream, in is fact GNU/Linux chocolate cream, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux chocolate cream.

@vgan for your ai_art_bot, does the # of likes on a piece adjust what it makes?

I truly hope someone who has requisite skills takes this and runs with it. Making money off it would be cool but I'd just feel better knowing it exists and othe people could use it.

Hopefully someone talented enough happens across the conversations to get things moving. I'd just like to talk about it more with people who are curious so it can get fleshed out more thoroughly. More people who discuss what it could be I figure the more excited we all can be for it and spread word.

I believe for idea to work, it would require minimalist personalization. Imo social media gets peak toxic when catered to self image. Sets bad examples for kids and makes your brain scrambled.

Any outward look your profile has towards others wouldnt include present photos or avatars. Built in process to make your own artpiece/drawing/randomized abstract whatever would be the view people see.

This gives breathing room for people who are less attractive and may get shunned unduly for it

I dont really want to blast what goes on in my life, it's not interesting. I'll blast my ideas instead.
