I have a weird mix of interests, but am happy to chat about: History, Arduino/Boarduino, 3D printing, Beekeeping, Historical costuming, Chess, Homebrew IoT, Wine-making.

Gullywasher today weirdly improving my mood. Amused that the supposed delivery date for books is Monday when Canada Post is supposed to have that day off for the Queen's funeral.

Zo wellz...won't be going on "vacation" until next Thursday at least.

Even living in Canada, I have yet to learn to like the smell of weed. But then songs like Traffic's "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" comes on and...

Ditto a bunch of "Frampton Comes Alive." :~)

So much changed b/c of an instant misunderstanding of how the side roads and highway fit together in front of that restaurant.

Had a chance to make my goodbyes to Aunt D. while she was still herself. Dunno whether she was ready to leave or no. She had just lost her oldest child but to die in May is almost unthinkable. Esp. when she loved flowers so much.

The scent of leaves turning reminds me that September cannot masquerade as August. And I grieve like it all just happened last month.

The coda to ten years ago was even worse. Later in Sept., Mom's older brother died. Mom & her sister and bro-in-law -- quite illogically -- decided they were going to drive, rather than fly, halfway across the country.

Before they left, they were driving back from dinner out and my Uncle fucked up a turn and they were T-boned by a much larger vehicle.

He died on the operating table. Aunt D. somehow made it through. Mom's arm was shattered beyond the point of any meaningful recovery.

Trying to fend off a melancholy knowing that this is the ten-year anniversary of the month that I lost my Mom's oldest sister -- the matriarch after their Mom died. Aunt L. went into hospice around Labour Day weekend.

This year, an old friend went into hospice about a week before Labour Day weekend, and faded out just over a week ago.

Any call for liberation without intersectionality is a call for a new group of masters, the dream of the second and third tiers of privilege to join in the top echelons. It is always bullshit. Feminism without intersectionality gave us white supremacist, classist/corporate, and trans-exclusionary feminism. Queer liberation without intersectionality resulted in white supremacist queer spaces and movements. Anticolonialism without intersectionality became neocolonialism. Accept nothing but full solidarity. Fuck the fuck off with baby steps, patience, and trickle-down justice. If you're not for liberation for all you're only another master-in-waiting and a user, fuck you.

Very cool, creepy project that uses AI to scan CCTV footage to match with Instagram influencers' pics & track them

Easy availability of AI tools like this means we need to reevaluate the risks posed by CCTV, as the scope for stalking & tracking has exploded twitter.com/driesdepoorter/sta

Ploughed through paperwork backlog by dangling a bunch of chess books out as a treat to myself. Have been looking for something that requires only one chess-board (if that) to follow along.

Dug "Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess" out of a box & cracked it open for the first time in 30+ years. DAMN -- why can't more of them be in that format? It's not so much about Fischer -- the material is basic. The pedagogy is outstanding.

Ooooh -- liking Wikibooks PDF on basic chess principles. Move-by-move or combination-by-combination analysis is necessary, yes. But too many authors expect you to pick up on too many concepts (e.g. when is a doubled pawn a strength vs. a weakness) by osmosis.

Someone just spelling out this basic shit without forcing you to play through a whole-ass game is just such a godsend for we n00bs.

Still wondering whether my nephew's realised that by tattling on his brother he outed himself for lying to me.

Seriously, if I could reach through the internet and slap that bullshit self-righteousness out of him, I'd do it in a hot nanosecond. Ditto the endless seething over problems that are largely self-inflicted.

He's got some tearstains but is still a handsome boy. If a gold color puppy named 发财/facai (literally get rich/good fortune) gets dropped off at your door needing help and you don't get it taken care of you're probably cursed for life. STEM educator or not I'm still Cantonese😅
