Soul Coughing!
Freshly released live performance from Lee's Palace in 1995. The mastering is awful, but it's still a thrilling addition to your collection.

May I present to you:

Actually usable scroll bars.

Real-world use cases:

1. Scrolling up/down.

2. Scrolling left/right.

3. At-a-glance indication of position.

4. At-a-glance indication of size of current working area in proportion to the total working area.

idk what it is about pure data but it seems to have just "clicked" with me in a way that other music programming things haven't. There's something that feels more fun about visual patching than text-based programming. Starting to feel like I should write a "why you should learn puredata" type post. I thought I hated graphical patching for years and now I find it more fun than "real programming". pd has things that bug me but I might be able to fix them with externals.

Yet another thing to love about #OrgMode : I can make to-do items while writing out plans or freewriting, then schedule them on the spot to appear in a time-sorted Agenda view. This is both convenient and helps place tasks for complex projects in their context and my thought process. #Emacs

“Came to a bar to have a nice beer, like any reasonable person would on a Friday. The waitress asked me to order through a QR code which would take my order only if I have a Gmail account. I left and found another bar because: I don’t want to have a beer through my Gmail. Jesus fucking Christ.” – Vjosa Musliu

How to shut down libertarian pro-corporate-freedom talking points:

If it wasn't for the EU mandating USB compatibility, we'd still live in a hellscape where every single new cell phone, even by the same brand, has a different charging connector. They weren't gonna fix it themselves, they profited off it and we paid for it. End-user-oriented and environment-oriented regulation fixed it and we're all better off.

The more I look into decentralized messaging systems, the more I think user names are a bad idea and trying to implement them is just a waste of time. Nice ones would disappear soon and most people would get a too-long, non-practical one in any case. Opaque IDs and assignable display names are easier and I think more useful.

so many people convinced they are "building the future" are actually just rehashing the present and the past. like every new supposedly planet-scale system that is ASCII only on some level, or the cryptocurrency community who's wildest dreams for a future society still involve money, hierarchy, wealth disparity, centralized control. this isn't progress.

Buddhism, religious intolerance, Christian asshats

And now in modern times we're watching certain sects of Christian Protestants, the spiritual successors of the diehard Confucians, trying to pull that religious persecution shit on Buddhism. (Not the Catholics though, other than a few right-wingers Korean Catholics are chill.) Prayers on temple grounds, defacing devotional statues, even burning a temple.

It's pretty enraging stuff, but I wish they'd take a glance at history and realize it's not going to work. I mean, if not the history of Korean Buddhism, then the history of Christianity itself maybe? Not even going as far back as Rome, but the history of Christianity in Korea is rife with persecution and martyrdom and uh... spoiler alert, these repressions did nothing to curb the rise of Christianity.

So these asshats are not only boring bullies, their fight was lost before it began. Korea has always been and will always be a multi-religious society; Buddhism was here for 2,000 years and it's not going away.

Oh, and the same goes for the Islamophobes. Islam is a part of our society now, live with it lol.
