Pinned toot

A writer’s responsibility is towards their readers, not their blog designs. @SubstackInc@twitter.com's newly introduced simple theming options can differentiate your blog without any fuss or maintenance required. And that’s how it should be. Loving it @cjgbest@twitter.com!

Deleted Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, and switched to @telegram@twitter.com and @signalapp@twitter.com.

A 1,000 years from now, people will look back at today’s internet as archaic, invasive and monopolistic. Here are easy-to-use, pro-privacy apps I recommend:

This is what I remind myself every time I feel low about not getting expected supporters.

I love me some instant noodles after a long day of work. All buttered up. uncertainjatan.substack.com/p/

Clockwise from top left: Veg atta, tomato, hakka noodles + cheese balls, and capsicum.

RSS readers, rejoice! 🛰
This forgotten technology is the most efficient and organized way to read sites you like on the Internet. I’ve now made RSS links clearly visible on all my blogs at jatan.xyz, including webwrite.substack.com

Deleted Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. And torched all of its caches, databases and other data stored in every browser on every device.

A 1,000 years from now, people will look back to this time as the archaic, invasive, ad-controlled, monopolistic, centralized internet.

I maintain that supporters being able to leave public messages on the profiles of creators is @buymeacoffee@twitter.com's best feature.

Someone supported me generously on @buymeacoffee@twitter.com and left the kindest message ever. 🥺😭

The world is falling in line with the sane privacy-by-default policy. Added Signal to my recommended list of pro-privacy apps that are easy to use: techthoughts.substack.com/p/pr

Look at what you've done. 🇮🇳

If I had displayed ads, this 70K visits could’ve been a decent earning. But I don’t. Ads and invasive tracking is just pure evil. But the point is it’s bittersweet to get so much traffic and no donations.

But hey, 40K people read about Moon exploration and science. :D

.@cjgbest@twitter.com just announced some dope new features on @SubstackInc@twitter.com: List management, multiple publications in one roof, and theming. The theming is available right now!

P.S. As someone who has 7 blogs/newsletters on Substack, I'm hyped.

If you’re a scientist, engineer or anyone similar who wants to write on the Internet, the first thing to realize is that academic writing is your enemy. 🔪

I just discovered that the macOS Preview app, which comes default, shows *individual frames* of GIFs! You can even extract out each frame as an image or PDF using the app's Export feature.
@macmost@twitter.com, @kingsidharth@twitter.com, this is so cool!

This is why we send spacecraft worth billions dedicated to studying the Sun and track its activity. Here’s a coronal mass ejection from the Sun striking the Earth’s magnetic field, pushing it in and bending it. Gotta save the satellites, comms and power grid.

If you end up writing a tweet thread on any topic, copy paste it and publish as a blog post instead.

Blogs are just better for discoverability, reading and search engines, and platforms like @SubstackInc@twitter.com have removed the clutter out of posting an article on the Internet.

Plus the fact that people can leave public messages on your profile. If someone is supporting you by donating/tipping, they're likely to leave a warm, encouraging message. I can't believe Patreon still doesn't have this feature.

I started blogging in 2011 as an amateur and I'm ending 2020 as a globally published science writer. Here is my journey, which I hope inspires people. 🚀

This comment by a high school student made my day. ☺️
